It’s the SWEETEST time of the year! Valentine’s Day! Are you looking for an adorable Valentine’s day book and activity to keep your students engaged on this exciting day? This book will be a STUDENT Favorite!

A Crankenstein Valentine by Samantha Berger is story about a very cranky boy–especially on Valentine’s Day! Children love Crankenstein’s cranky attitude and facial expression! The especially love the heart undies!
There are so many activities you can do after reading this hysterical book! Here are some ideas to get you going.
Retell the Story
These differentiated common core aligned graphic organizers will have students writing about the character, setting, problem, and solution of the story. Students can also retell the beginning, middle, and end of the story. This activity aligns with 1st and 2nd grade reading standards very well!
Describe Character Traits
Students can write about the main character by describing character traits or adjectives that describe Crankenstein. I like to stretch my students thinking with words that are a bit newer to them. Otherwise they would use “happy” or “nice” over and over again.
Share a Little Kindness
Students can get creative and come up with ways to make Crankenstein smile. This activity is a great way to get students to think about ways to share kindness with others. It is a perfect addition to any SEL learning you are doing in your classroom.
Craft a Crankenstein
The next activity is a FAVORITE of my students! Student will get to create a Crankenstein character craft and suggest a way to cheer up Crankenstein. The finished products are perfect for hallway or bulletin board displays during the month of February. They are also great ways to spread kindness ideas with others.
Let’s Get Cranky
Have a few extra minutes in your day that you need to fill? How about these fun games? These are perfect for morning work or early finishers!
If you like what you see here and think your students would enjoy them on Valentine’s Day, make sure you grab a copy of all these activities in A Crankenstein Valentine Activities and Craft packet.
By the way. . . here are my two very own Valentines! They are teenagers, don’t want to take pictures together, and are often very CRANKY!

Love you you all this Valentine’s Day! I hope your February is SWEET!
