Whew! Teaching is DIFFICULT on a normal day. Teaching during a Pandemic is many things– CHALLENGING, FRUSTRATING, CONFUSING, and just down-right OVERWHELMING!
We as teachers thought we knew what we were doing until we all were forced to go virtual in March of 2020. Most of us had no idea how to teach virtually. Many of us were balancing our own families while trying to be there “virtually” for our students. We literally had to pivot overnight to synchronous and asynchronous virtual instruction. It was HARD and we were doing the best we could do.
Congratulations to all you teachers out there that finished the school year of 2020 in one piece. You made it through one of the most difficult eras in education.
While teaching from home in 2020, we had to get creative on how we engaged students. Most of us were familiar with Google Classroom and might have used it previously, which helped us to push out assignments and tasks. Many of us were familiar with Seesaw and could also use it for assignments. But, most of us needed more. Our students were getting bored with the same types assignments each day.
One website I found in 2020 was a website that provided digital interactive games that were, self-checking for students (think instant feedback) and even provided a report for teachers on student progress all without us as teachers having to grade a single page! I was sold.
This website was a relatively new platform, but provided TONS of teacher made interactive resources for other teachers to use in their classroom or online. Boomlearning.com was a HUGE find and engaged my students through SO many interactive learning experiences.
